Our Youth Mission Statement
In partnership with families, the Youth Ministry at First Presbyterian Church exists to engage 100% of the students under its care, to train them to live independently in Christ and to send them out as exceptional Godly men and women of integrity who will transform their homes, their schools, their churches, their workplaces and their worlds for Christ.
We have an amazing group of teenagers and Youth Leaders at First Presbyterian Church, Nashville. The keystone of our Youth Ministry is found in our emphasis on empowering families and connecting students to an extended Christian family in the church.
All of our teenagers meet in grade-level classes on Sunday morning for Sunday School classes with a “home-grown” curriculum, covering everything from the patriarchs to peer pressure. These classes are taught by an energetic team of adults who love Jesus Christ and love kids. Once a month, all youth meet together on Sunday morning for worship, games and a lesson led by staff.
A number of our youth take a deeper look at the Christian life in one of our weekly 10:24 small groups. These groups meet at a variety of times throughout the week and provide an informal time for searching, questioning and learning to live as an extended Christian family.
We also have activities throughout the year, such as Barefoot Club, Prayer Partner Breakfast, Family Facelift, Youth Sunday, Senior Banquet, Crud Day, Youth Basketball and Prayer Vigil. Additionally, each grade level will participate in multiple service projects throughout the year with a chosen organization. Some of the organizations we have worked with include Preston Taylor Ministries, Nations Ministries, The Cumberland, Second Harvest Food Bank, Young Life Capernaum and many more!
In the past we have participated in mission trips to Ecuador, Mexico, the Dominican Republic, Belize and Arizona. We have done various projects in New Orleans since Hurricane Katrina. Each summer our Junior High youth attend The Great Escape Youth Conference in Cleveland, Tennessee – a pivotal event that many mark as the turning point in their walk with Jesus.
Because of the increasing need to support parents of our youth, we frequently sponsor programs for parents and teens together, along with events designed specifically for parents of teens. Please contact the Youth Program Coordinator, Millie Ledbetter (298-9570 or firstname.lastname@example.org), if we can serve you or if you are interested in helping us!
