Adam’s Devotional from January 7, 2021

From Adam:

This week’s images of violence from our nation’s capital are frightening. Did you know that violence took place on Epiphany? Never heard of Epiphany? Epiphany is the day we remember the three wise men visiting the Christ child. They bring him gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. Remember? It could be just a coincidence, but God may be trying to teach us something. Those three wise men were from a different religion, nationality, and maybe even different race than Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. That means that from the very beginning of the incarnation, Jesus brings together people who are different. So the invitation of Epiphany is to follow the example of the three wise men. Wherever you are, whatever far off opinion or perspective land you live in, to journey from that place to the Christ Child and offer him gifts. If you’re fresh out of myrrh then give Jesus what you have to offer, yourself and all your opinions. Then from that place of giving your life to Chirst, love those who are different from you, because you know Christ loves them too. God’s up to something . . . be a part of it.
