Adam’s Devotional – October 22-28, 2020

From Adam…

You’re all talk! Proverbs 14:3 goes like this. In all toil there is profit, but mere talk leads only to poverty. Jesus says this, too, in the gospels of both Matthew and Luke. Everyone who hears these words of mine and does them, will be like a wise man… and then at the last supper in John’s gospel, Jesus says this: If I, your teacher and Lord have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. … if you know these things you are blessed if you do them. It is not enough merely to talk about God, simply to ponder about what God is like. The Holy Spirit invites us into communion with God, into a passionate relationship with Christ. Have you ever confused an intimate faith life with mere talk about God? God loves us, not so we can just talk about God’s grace and mercy but so we can experience, receive, and share it. What would it look like this week, if you put the truth of God’s love for us into action? What would it look like if you acted on Christ’s calling and teaching? The good news is this, it doesn’t matter what you do, in all toil there is profit. Do one thing this week out of a desire to live and actively practice your faith more fully. God’s up to something . . . be a part of it!
