Malachi 1:6-14

  • What words or lines jump out to you in the text? Why?
  • How would you describe the attitude of God in this passage?
  • What would you say is God’s goal or motivation in addressing Israel?
  • What are the accusations that God is bringing against Israel?
  • Why is the comparison in verse 8 important for us to understand?
  • What does it say about the priests that they were going above and beyond to find favor in the eyes of governors or other leaders, but with God they were doing the bare minimum?
  • In verse 14, God calls the priests a “cheat” (the Hebrew word literally means deceiver, conspire or to be crafty). How are they trying to deceive God?
  • What insights do these aspects of how Israel was engaging with leaders and the priests promising God the best and then giving the least tell us about what was happening?
  • How do the ways you show your parents, teachers or other adults that you care about them compare to how you show God that you care?
