Online Sunday School – 8/2/20

August 2(Phil. 2:1-11)

  • What words or lines jump out to you in the text? Why?
  • How would you define humility?
  • Who is the humblest person that you know? What makes them so humble?
  • What would it mean or look like to value others above yourself?
  • Would always valuing others above yourself lead to you being walked all over in an unhealthy way? Why or why not?
  • Is it ever okay to put yourself first? Why or why not?
  • What do you make of Paul’s example of this way of living in Jesus’ live, and most importantly, in his death? What was the consequence of Jesus living in this way? (see verses 9-11)
  • What is the difference between trying to be the best version of ourselves versus using other people as inspiration and motivation to learn and grow in ways that may not be innate?
  • How would it impact your life if instead of being jealous of others who were better at certain things that you are, you celebrated them and asked to learn from them?
  • What would the world look like if we all operated in a way where we celebrated others and set out to learn from one another?
  • What is one person in your life that you have been jealous of? What would it look like to shift your attitude to celebrate and learn from that person instead?
