Online Sunday School – 9/13/20

September 13

  • What words or lines jump out to you in the text? Why?
  • Why were the Pharisees so upset about the fact that Jesus’ disciples were picking grain?
  • Why would the Pharisees have had such a problem with Jesus healing a man’s hand on the Sabbath?
  • The Mishnah, writings based on the oral teachings from the Torah stated, “Whenever there is doubt whether life is in danger, this overrides the Sabbath.” Jesus is apparently referring to that common teaching in this situation.
  • What is Jesus saying about that understanding?
  • Reread Mark 2:27-28. What does it mean that, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath.”
  • When it comes to instilling Sabbath in our lives, how do we understand what counts as work and what counts as rest?
  • Can something be restful to one person and be work to another person? Why or why not?
  • Can something be restful one time and work another time? Why or why not?
  • How do we say no to things when we need to prioritize rest?
  • What would it look like for you to say no to something in your schedule this week and replace it with a time of
  • rest?
