Online Sunday School – 9/6/20

September 6

  • What words or lines jump out to you in the text? Why?
  • What are the accusations that God is bringing against the priests in this section?
  • How do you react to God’s line of, “Return to me, and I will return to you”?
  • How are the people of Israel robbing God?
  • How have you heard tithe talked about in our lives?
  • How does that compare or contrast with the Biblical understanding and goal of tithing?
  • For Israel, the temple was also their vehicle of government. In other words, paying the tithe was as much a religious practice as it was a civil responsibility. How does that compare to our system of paying taxes?
  • If paying taxes can be attributed to meeting the same goal of the tithe, does that mean we shouldn’t worry about being generous? Why or why not?
  • What would it look like for us to fulfill the same heart behind the goal of tithing in the Bible?
  • What would be the benefit to our communities (school, town, church, etc.) if we practiced generosity more often?
  • Is there something you can do this week, not out of guilt but cheerfully, to give to someone in need?
